Indonesia

AAMH and our partners in Indonesia have built a deep and enduring partnership in mental health. The strategic aim for our work is to support improvement of quality of life for people with mental ill-health, their families and ultimately their communities.

Since 2005, Asia Australia Mental Health has supported Indonesia through a significant program of work in mental health. The collaboration with national government ministries, and key consumer and carer NGOs has led to significant achievements in mental health service development for Indonesia.

Building on the strengths of culture and community in Indonesia, AAMH is working for a more sustainable community and recovery-oriented approach, through training, research, evaluation, and leadership support.

Indonesia programs

AAMH and Indonesia have collaborated on a variety of projects since 2005;

Supported mental health specialist training placements from Indonesia, facilitated through the POST program under the Australian Leadership Awards Fellowship (ALAF).
Hosted important delegations from Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social Affairs, including the Minister and Director General.
Indonesia is an active participant in the Asia Pacific Community Mental Health Development Project (APCMHDP): Senior leaders have attended conferences held in Melbourne, New Delhi, Beijing, with the Ministry of Health co-hosting the Bali conference.
Published key examples of Indonesian community mental health in two APCMHDP publications.
Inaugural participants in the Art and Mental Health project initiative, and published a chapter in the Creative Opportunities publication on Art and Mental Health in the region.
