New scholarship opportunity for mental health training

August 31, 2015

The Thomas Trauer Grant has been announced through St Vincent’s Foundation to support the development of mental health services in the Asia Pacific region.  Applications will be received from 1 August to 30 September 2015.

The aim of the Thomas Trauer Grant is to build capacity in the mental health workforce by providing access to much needed resources in research, mentoring, and teaching.  Tom Trauer was a passionate researcher, teacher, mentor and clinician in the fields of psychology and psychiatry, who was known for his supportive nature, generosity and dedication to his work.  Tom was passionate about service development overseas, and particularly in developing countries of the Asia Pacific. This interest led to travel to such countries as China, Cambodia, Qatar, Laos, Vietnam, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Canada, Israel and England to provide advice on service delivery, policy and research.

Grant applications for professional development activities are invited from applicants working in the area of mental health in a low-resourced setting in the Asia-Pacific region.  Asia Australia Mental Health and the POST program would be able to work with health professionals through existing public health institutional linkages and develop an individual 2-4 week scholarship to enhance leadership in Community Mental Health in the Asia Pacific through fellowship training under the POST Program
